  • I have an Elizabeth Greenaway in my tree as my 1C4R. Her father was William Greenaway, probably born around 1815 (guessing based on birth year of his first child born in 1840) and her mother was Eliza Jackson. Elizabeth was born 25 June 1854 and baptized 23 April 1855 at St. Paul's Church of Ireland in Tartaraghan. The family was from Derrycor townland in Tartaraghan parish, County Armagh.

Your marriage date of 1887, if the bride was my Elizabeth, would mean she was 33 years old when she married Henry Vennard, which is pretty late for women in those days. But, she was the youngest child of six and may have felt she needed to stick around to help her parents (I don't have a death date for either of them yet.) Also, since your post shows that Elizabeth and Henry Vennard's last child was born in 1900, that DOES suggest it could be this woman (my cousin), since that would make her 45 at her last birth (late but possible, and I've seen many births in early age 40's for women), and any Elizabeth Greenaway who was born any earlier (making her younger than 33 at marriage) would have been highly unlikely to still be able to have a child in 1900. So, my guess is that this is her, and we are related.

I have an obscure reference to a Vennard in my database. It's from a hand-drawn family tree on which my GGGG uncle John Verner, who married Jane Jackson and had no children, was said to have left property to his nephew Robert Verner "then residing at D'add (Vennards)". This Robert Verner (1830-1914) was married to Elizabeth McVeigh in 1859 at the Milltown church in Tartaraghan, lived in Derryadd until at least 1864 (Griffiths' Valuation) but was in Derryane (where he died) by the 1901 census.

It is likely that the Jane Jackson just referenced was somehow related to Eliza Jackson, spouse of William Greenaway and the mother of my Elizabeth Greenaway.

    Best regards,

    Susan Rogers

  • Thank you for update.

I am very excited to see the surnames you mention. I have folder dedicqted to Verner surname because I've always believed there to be a connection although never sure how. Possibly I do now. Because your mention of Jackson is also exciting especially the Milltown reference. Moses Jackson's 2nd wife Mary Venart is my 1C3R.

1859 Oct 27 at Milltown Parish church (United) Moses Jackson: bach of Derryadd (ftr=Moses a farmer) and Anne Jane Stevenson spin of Derrycor (ftr=Arthur a weaver Witnesses: James Stevenson & Joseph Megone.)

1883 Mar 9 at Milltown Parish church (COI) Moses Jackson widr labourer (ftr=Moses farmer) and Mary Venart spin (ftr= Joseph farmer) both living Derrylilleagh.

Your update made my day when I read it.

    warm regards, Denise Bostwick
