Dr. Bartholomew EGAN was born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland on December 10, 1795.  In 1818 he migrated to the USA and settled in Virginia where he completed his education and became a medical doctor. While in Virginia he and Thomas Jefferson became friends.

About 1820 he married Anne Eliza Cormick and they had at least two sons:  James C. Egan and William B. Egan.

In 1847 the family settled in Bienville Parish, Louisiana where he and his son practiced medicine and founded the S.W. Louisiana Medical Society.

Dr. Bartholomew Egan died on May 6, 1879, and was buried at Oakland Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana, USA.  His wife was also buried in that cemetery.  [See link to the Find A Grave Memorial for Bartholomew Egan below for more biographical information]
