By 1900, she found employment as cook and general servant in the home of Samuel McDougal at #11 Myrtle Street, Boston. In 1913, she married John Joseph Battle, a widower whose extended Sligo family had settled in and around Hyde Park, Boston. They had one son together, William, and three sons as well from John's first marriage. Delia continued to work outside the house as a cook until a few months before her death in 1935.
