Catherine was born in Castlesheenaghan, Meelick on Jan. 5 and baptized Jan. 6, 1863. Her father was Patrick Neafsy and her mother Bridget Donlevy/Donleavy. She immigrated by herself to Buffalo, NY in 1882 when she was 19. She lived with her Aunt Catherine Neafsy Nichols, uncle and cousins in a boardinghouse in South Buffalo and worked in her uncle's tavern until she met her future husband Joseph Houle. They married Jan. 8, 1889 at St. Joseph's cathedral in Buffalo, NY. Catherine and Joseph had 8 children.
