My great great grandmother - Elizabeth Johnston was born in Ballydoonan, County Down in 1826 and married Hugh McCarty ( born Ballywalter, County Down) in 1853 and migrated to Donnybrook, Victoria, Australia approximately that year. They were involved in mining in the Victoria goldfields.
They later migrated to NZ around 1863 where they first went to Central Otago before settling in the Patea area of South Taranaki.
Elizabeth died in 1902.
