Ellen (Helena) Preston was born about 1830 in Clonmel. She was born Roman Catholic. Her father was Jeremiah Preston and her mother is unknown. Ellen worked in the Clonmel Workhouse.
She was an Irish Famine Orphan and came to Australia by the ship New Liverpool in 1849. She worked for 1 year for Richard Hull in Richmond as a housemaid.
On the 17 March, 1852 she married Robert William Jones (who was born in Wales) in Melbourne.
She died on the 28 May, 1901 in Victoria, Australia.
