No picture of George survives. He is from Youghal  (born 1826) and is believed to have left during the famine travelled first to to the USA as DNA and stories link there and then arrived in Australia in 1853/5  was listed as a shipwright. He joined the river trade on the paddle steamers at Echuca. 

He married Catherine Cosgrove ( nee Cavanagh)  who immigated from Rathdrum, Wicklow. Only two sons of their 10 children survived and both worked on the river.  This is his son John born in Echuca who was the Captain of the City of Oxford Paddle Steamer, an entertainment ship  on the Murray River.  The second son George worked in the Port of Adelaide working steamer which is still running today and the oldest of this type of wooden vessell in the world. They were pioneers of Victoria.
