Born in 1859 in Boolteens, Ballyferriter at the tip of the Dingle peninsula . Her birth record is in the church across from the school and lists her as Honora Therea Fitzgerald. Her father Thomas Fitzgerald had married Mary Adams in Dunurten, Kerry on Jan,2 1857.  Thomas died in 1875 in Dingle town. Leaving a widow Mary Adams Fitzgerald and at least 6 children. Her cousin Samuel Adams had immigrated to the USA in Lowell Mass. One by one the children were sent to the USA by sailing ship.. They worked in a woolen mill until enough money was saved to bring the next child over. By 1880 the family was in Lowell Mass. 1898 Anna Theresa Fitzgerald was in Anaheim calif where she married a Irishman William Joseph Nettleton born in Butler Iowa. His father had immigrated from Dublin. Anna and William had 3 girls born in Los Angeles California. Mary Geraldine called Gerry born 11/28/1901, Anna called Netty, Agni Erin. Netty went to Hawaii to care for a lady with TB and did not return home Gerry was sent to bring her home but also stayed in Hawaii. By 1932 Anna Theresa and William Nettleton were also living in Hawaii in Waikiki. William died in 1938. Anna Theresa moved from Oahu to Kauai to be with her daughter Netty where she died 1953 in Kalaheo, Kauai.

  • This is a really neat lifeline story. Starting out in Dingle peninsula, and ending almost a 100 years later in Hawaii. I'm part of the Fitzgerald family line from this country in Kerry, but my direct line is out of the north rural side of Killarney. Thank you for sharing your families story. Noting, kind of neat, too, in that I was born in San Diego, California. Neat how blood relations (even slightly distant) come within proximity of one another on timelines and locations.
