James Breen was born in Tipperary, may have been in the Cappaghwhite area where his son Daniel was born in 1873. James was the son of Martin Breen, a farmer, and Mary Riordan. James married Ellen Dwyer in Galbally/Aherlow parish in January 1873. Ellen was born in the Glen of Aherlow and was christened on 5 September 1847 at Aughmarock in the catholic parish of Galbally. They left Ireland in late 1874 and arrived in Australia in February 1875.
