My grandmother's family originate from here and some of them are buried in St. Saran's Church. They had a farm near the bridge over the River Shannon to Shannon Harbour and some of them worked on the boats there, repairing them.

The family moved to Dublin somewhere between 1873 and 1901. James was my great grandfather who worked, I am told on the Guinness barges that used the Grand Canal. He was born in Offaly in 1873 and then appears on the Census in 1901 in Dublin.

One of his sons was Patrick Rigney who is famous for his exploits in the 1916 Uprising and in the Civil war. He is mentioned in many Irish history books.
