  • Can’t help with Kennedy side. However here is something on Kemple side.

This is a bit of a longer story but here is short version. The Kemple family still lives in the Looscaun area in a town called Rossmore. Working up the family tree they cross my family tree O’Shaughnessy who lived in Cloonoon next to both Looscaun and Rossmore. There is an O’Shaughnessy splinter also in Australia in an area called Kingower near Bendigo where there are a lot of ties to the same surrounding area of Looscaun, Coos, Portumna and Woodford.

  • Thanks Ciaran, that’s very interesting.  My sister and I are visiting Galway in June, I will try and follow up the Kemple history. Who knows we might get to meet some distant cousins in Galway and Bendigo  :-) Cheers, Gayle

Hi Gayle. I will be in Galway in mid June staying in the Rossmore/ Looscaun area visiting cousins. Would be happy to introduce you to them if the Kemples are around. You could visit the heritage center in  the Town of Woodford who will gladly look up genealogy info for you.

If you want to get in contact directly my email is Ciara.oshaughnessy@gmail.com

Hi Ciaran, I seemed to have lost the thread and life got hectic.  I emailed you to say we will be in Ireland from 3 to 10 June, but will probably miss you and the possibilty of an introduction to the Kemples as you are visiting mid-June.  I have been in touch with the Heritage Centre and done some research for me, also put me in touch with the grand daughter of my grandfather's brother who was the youngest child of James and Ellen (Kemple) Kennedy's children.   I feel like I "belong" already to the land of my ancestors.  Cheers, Gayle

  • Gayle that’s great to hear you will have a great time. A 2nd Cousin of mine Flaherty is married to a Kevin Kemple in Rossmore. He maybe a cousin to the granddaughter you mentioned. Small world.

  • Hi

Bendigo was a fast growing town with a LOT of social activity and the Irish organised St Patricks Day Parade and the Easter Fair to raise money for Catholic schools, the elderly and others in need.

The Flood family from Woodford (and surrounds) emigrated to Australia after the famine. They settled in Bendigo. Family Tree is on Wikitree - Edmund Edmond Patrick Catherine Mary Ellen Thomas FLOOD

If you go onto TROVE and select NEWSPAPERS. Then type in your relatives name. Then selct Victoria and you can select a decade or year. Also narrow down your search by choosing the bendigo newspapers.
