  • Jane Walton was born at Oldcastle, Meath, possibly in either 1837 or 1838. This fact is recorded on several of the birth certificates of her seven children.  Jane migrated to Adelaide, South Australia, leaving Liverpool on May 16th, 1855 on board the ship "Admiral Boxer".  She was then already 18 y.o, and had been living in Co Cavan, possibly in Munter Connaught, where it is known that her most likely father, Henry Walton, was also living about this time. She married an Irish mariner, William Meehan, in Adelaide in March, 1856.  Two years later, her family moved to Melbourne in Victoria, during the time of the Gold Rushes. The family stayed in Melbourne, William Meehan finding work there.  Jane (Walton) Meehan died in November, 1871.
