His parents were Timothy Flaherty and Margaret Riordan. John married Catherine Dinneen on February 19, 1860. They had seven children during their marriage. One of their sons, Timothy, inherited his property. Other sons (including Patrick) emigrated to America. Mary emigrated. Family narrative is that Johanna emigrated and returned to Ireland. John died about 1907 having lived a long life. John Flaherty died in Spa of Slievenavadoge. His death was likely recorded in Tralee. His gravesite remained unknown as of 2021.
