John Caherty was born in Camly Ball (alternatively spelled as one word) on Christmas day, Grandchildren of John Caherty have each got conflicting DOBs in their records. All agree that the birthday was December 25th, but the years range from 1852 to 1865.
There is a record of his baptism in Creggan Lower Township, Armagh, Northern Ireland on May 25, 1857, and his parents were married February 19, 1855; so that narrows down the range quite a bit. Using the records of births and baptisms of his siblings, it seems most reasonable that he is the eldest and was born 12-25-1856. Records that old are hard to come by, but I haven't given up.
