Migrated to/Born in USA

John Joseph Powers (1870?-1940) from Dungarvan (we heard) in his 1939 work Identification card from Brooklyn (Kings County) Lighting Company.

His siblings also emigrated to New York: Joseph, Richard, Anastasia. Their parents were Bridget Kane and Patrick Powers.

Siblings Edmund and Patrick either stayed or passed as children.

One baptism might have been in Kilmacthomas.....so hard to trace a Powers in Waterford from across the pond!

Thank you!

Ann Marie Lynch (another challenging surname to trace)!

  • The family lived in Kilrossanty Parish, in Ballykerogue (did not say if it was BIG or LITTLE).  His father, Patrick, was listed as a farmer.

John's date of birth was 10 June 1864.

He married in the new Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue, NYC.  June 12, 1898 at a side altar off the back of the large altar.  John married his girlfriend from Newcastle, Tipperary, Norah Leahy.  We were told they must have met at a dance in Four-Mile-Water area, early 1890s, and planned to migrate to the US.  John's brothers immigrated to Brooklyn; Norah's sisters went to Manhattan.

John and Norah had four boys: John, James Patrick, Patrick, Edward and lived in Brooklyn, New York.

I am their granddaughter, Ann Marie
