John was my GG Father. Had been trying for years to prove the family story that he drowned at Cappagh Pier.

He was said to have two jobs later in life. One was a bread delivery man for a local baker and the second a security guard for the ship deliveries at Cappagh Pier. The picture you can see is the cutting from the newspaper the Cork Examiner of 24th April 1912. It says in later years he was of poor eyesight and on a poor evening at the pier probably walked off the pier by mistake.

The family story was that he was murdered whilst guarding alcohol at Cappagh. He was found at the bottom of the pier propped up. I have been unable to find his correct date of birth and the census of 1901 and 1911 both give different ages for John. He also seems to have been widowed and then married Mary Mullane at Doonbeg in Sept 1883. We think that Mary's family was originally from Cork but unable to prove that and as to why the family would be in the Doonbeg area. I am presumiung that though as the marriage is usually in the bride's home town. Any Help appreciated.
