  • I've been trying to make a connection between my gg grandfather, James J. Condren and this Kieran.  City directories in Connecticut make me believe they are related but I can't find the records that affirm the connection.  James J. Condren fought in the American civil war shortly after coming to America.  His war records show him as born in 1840 in "Seven Churches" Ireland.  He survived the war, married Mary Eloise Campbell in Hartford, Connecticut in 1868 and died at 38 on 4 May 1878.  He was hospitalized a good bit during the war and I think he never quite recovered from his illnesses (just a theory).  He worked as a gardener at the Colt Mansion in Hartford until he died.  He had at least six children:  James F., Mary Ellen, Rose O., Anne Josephine, Margaret E. and Elizabeth A.

  • Great information. I surmise that James could be Kieran's step brother as Kieran's mother, Mary Temple, died in 1836, just after John Conran's (Kieran's brother's) birth in 1833.  It appears that Kieran's father, James Conran /Condron then remarried to Margaret Coughlin (1814 - 1874).  James Conran/Condron and Margaret Couglin had five, possibly six children, one being possibly James.  However, if your James Condren was born in 1840, the next offspring to James and Margaret was Patrick Condron and he was born in 1847, and that may be a disconnect.  Alternatively, Kieran and your James Condren may also be first cousins. They certainly knew each other as Kieran was also a gardener at the Colt mansion for a number of years. I have also confirmed that I am related genetically to Patrick Condron and his ancestors, including, Martin Condron (1882-1973), who ended up in Boston, but was born in Clonfinlough, Clonmacnoise, Ire.

  • Hi Patrick!  I didn't realize this was your post.  I'm losing track of who I've spoken to about what.  I did just make a strong genetic and paper trail connection to a Condron cousin (second cousin of mine through Elizabeth Condren FLYNN, a daughter of James J.  We have just started to share info, mostly FLYNN info so far but I'll let you know via email if he can clarify anything about my Condren line.

  • Hi Patrick, I'm wondering if we have a family connection through my great great grandfather Kieran Condron. Although Kieran doesn't appear to have left Ireland, his children did (Bridget Condron, Thomas Condron and possiblly Elizabeth Condron.   We seem to have a lot of first names in common, Kieran was born in 1846 and married a Mary Coughlin (another name for Margaret?)  They had 9 children... James Condron (DOB 1877); Brident Condron (DOB 22.04.1879); Michael Condron (DOB 22.05.1877 - my great grandfather); Kieran Condron (DOB 18.08.1883); Thomas Condron (DOB 1884); Elizabeth COndron (DOB 1887); Ann Condron (DOB 1887); Ann Condron (DOB 1890); Margaret Condron (DOB 1892 and Elizabeth Condron (DOB 1896). All children were born in Offaly (Kings County).

I have established that Kieran had a brother Patrick.

I'm wondering if any of this details matches your own searches?

I appreciate the children's names were quite common in Ireland so it might be a coincidence that we have names in common.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Lisa:

I have been linked to Condrons through dna, therefore, it is entirely possible that we are related.  Have you done a dna analysis?  My ancestors are from the Clonmacnoise area, yours?  I, unfortunately, have to work today, but I would love to review and share some more information over the weekend.  I can be reached at pmconran1982@gmail.com. and live in Boston, MA.
