Margaret Foley was born in the Priest's Haggard of Sutton's Parish in County Wexford, Ireland.  She married Laurence McDonald of County Carlow. They lived in Chilcomb Lodge, Rosbercon Parish, County Kilkenny for a number of years. Some of their children moved to England.  Some migrated to the US (Chicago and Michigan). After Laurence died she moved with the rest of the children to Chicago, via the Spain from Liverpool landing in New York (18 May 1866).  Most of the family stayed in the Chicago area, but two of her sons, Patrick Joseph (known as PJ) and Laurence Thomas moved to California and raised their families there.  Margaret's youngest son, David Laurence, was ordained a priest in 1900, was assigned to Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago for 17 years, was pastor of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Chicago, was appointed Consulter of the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1926 by Cardinal Mundelein, and was invested as domestic prelate to Pope Pius XI in 1928 before his death in 1930.
