Widow Margaret Riordan neé Sullivan and 5 adult children settled in central Kansas in 1859, Margaret's tombstone reads "Sacred to the memory of our beloved mother Margaret Riordan who departed this life Jan. 6. 1879 aged 73 years A native of Mitchelstown Co. Cork Ireland" She is my Great-great-great-great-grandmother. I am descended from her eldest son John (Oct. 12. 1829-May 16. 1890). Her children were John, Patrick, Thomas, Dennis, Bridget Riordan (Barret) and Mary Riordan (Tobin) who I believe were all born in Mitchelstown Co. Cork. My nuclear family know very little about Margaret's husband, other than he was not present on their journey from La Saille, Ill. to what is now eastern Saline Co., KS.

  • Your John Riordan died 9 Jan 1918.  His nephew John Riodan son of Patrick Riordan was born 12 Oct 1867 and died 16 May 1890.  Patrick Riordan born 17 March 1837 and died 18 Sept 1893 is my husband's great-grandfather. Have you been to Mitchelstown? I have a copy of an essay written in 1939 about the our Riordan family.  I have it posted on Ancestry.com.  If you would like a copy let me know.

  • Yes, I would love that!

I visited Ireland on a People to People International trip in 2005 during High School, but the nearest I got to Mitchelstown was Waterford and Cork. My dad used the money my grandfather Riordan saved up for me.
