Mary Catherine Coffey was born in 1846 to Mary Sullivan and John Cornelius Coffey in Castleisland. Commeenatoguil is stated in the Casey Collection as the baptism parish. She was the youngest of nine children. When her father died about 1852, her mother emigrated to the United States with her children. They originally settled in Lebanon, New York, where they were farmers. Two years later, she moved with her mother and four siblings to Knox, Illinois where they stayed and became farmers. Mary Catherine married Dennis McGrath at age 18. They had four children. She died young, at age 28 in Illinois.
