My Gt Gt Grandfather Patrick Scully was born in Longford Ireland.

He moved to County Durham before 1871 (as did his brother James and sister Mary) where he turns up as a lodger on the census of that year.

He married Catherine Burns the following year and went onto have 13 children. His wife died from complications in childbirth in 1899 and their youngest child James was raised by his Sister Mary and her husband James Lalley.

Patrick's brother James married Bridget Feeny on 2/2/1865 in Shrule/Ballymahone, Longford. Their first child John was born in County Durham in 1886 but died in 1975. His wife, Bridget died in 1876 and his unmarried sister Mary came from Ireland to raise the remaining living children Edward Francis (1867), James Martin (1869), Thomas Patrick (1870-1958), Michael Joseph (1872-1962), Mary (1874 -1879).

Mary stated that she would not marry until James has found another wife. The marriage record show that Mary married Michael Mullen and James Scully married his second wife Katherine Sheehan on the same day at the same church (21/09/1878 at the Sacred Heart and English Martyrs Church in Thornley, Durham, England. James, his second wife Catherine and 4 surrviving children (all men) emigrated to America 1886-1889. They settled in Sullivan, Indiana, USA.
