Thomas Francis Hughes, b 1839 Cullyhanna, Armagh, Ulster Prov., Ireland d 1920 Texas, parents William Hughes & Mary McCoy.  ( the name of McGivern may be as well)  left Ireland in 1864, for U.S. Settled in Illinois until 1880 went to Gainesville, Tx, then on to Saint Jo, Montague Co., Tx.  Married Sarah Engelman Larkin, daug of Judge Geo. K. Larkin, in Illinois. 7 children born to their union. 

Father William Hughes b 1818 d 1872 in Dublin.  Attorney and land holder in Ireland. William's father, Thomas....Thomas father Arthur Hughes, native of Scotland.

Thomas Francis Hughes matriculated at Trinity College, Dublin, at age seventeen. In 1860 he came to America, landed in New York. In 1864 his parents came over and located in Illinois.In 1870 he went to St. Louis, and engaged himself as a teacher in a commercial school. and in 1872 married Sarah Engelman Larkin, daug. of Judge George K. Larkin, of Illinois. Seven children blessed this union, Mary Rose, Robert, George, Kittie, James, Nettie & Arthur. In 1885 Prof. Hughes brought his family to Texas, and was appointed as superintendent of schools, Gainesville, Cooke Co., Tx.later west to Saint Jo, Montague Co., Tx. He was one of the town founders of Saint Jo.
