Lived in Belmullet until the age of 13 before emigrating to Terre Haute, Indiana, USA to live with his aunt Bridget O'Toole Hurley. He married Minnie Barnes in 1897 who bore him 4 children before dying shortly after the last was born. Three of these children died before their 20th year. The last was 26 when he died of tuberculosis.
Thomas married Rebecca Tolan in 1912
He worked as a blacksmith, mostly for coal mining companies in the US. Midwest.
He died in Westville, Illinois in 1947.
