  • I don't know, Patricia.  I believe my William Orr was the 9th child of John William Orr and Janet McClement.  The only information I have about his parents is that Janet McClement was born about 1701, died 18 Oct 1755 in Ballygowan, Down, Ireland.  I don't have a daughter Margaret in the list of children, but have Mary Rebecca, Thomas, Isaella, John, Samuel, Robert, Agnes, James, and my William.  I have no record of William's parents ever leaving Ireland.

I would be happy to share my information about William and his wife, Sarah Quigley (also of Killead, Antrim) if you find a family connection.  Their daughter, Martha Orr, married Alexander Young of Antrim after their immigration to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

    Happy researching!

  • In the tree I am researching I have a William Orr of Washington County, Pennsylvania (firmed from Cumberland Co. as population increased). My William served in the Revolutionary War, married Mary Bailey; and moved to the newly formed state of Ohio in 1804. Ohio is immediately to the west of Washington County.

  • Good day, A B,

We're probably distant cousins.  But My William Orr married Sarah Quigley.  He owned land in Pennsboro, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and paidmtaxed there.  He signed a will in 1768 there, and was buried at the Silver Spring Presberterian Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland, Pennsylvania.  Sources for my information are Five Typical Scotch Irish Families of Cumberland Valley (on Archives.com); "Historic Pennsylvania Church and Town Records (on Ancestry.com); First Settlers and Settlements in Cumberland County PA, p. 24....

William's daughter, Martha, married Alexander Young, who served in the Revolultionary War.

    Happy searching!

  • It seems your William is either the father or uncle of mine. In any case, always a pleasure to meet a cousin
