The Galway Film Fleadh originated in 1989 as part of the larger Galway International Arts Festival. The Film Fleadh is held every year in July in Galway city. The fleadh acts as both a showcase for internationally renowned films, and also as a launching pad for the careers of up and coming film makers. Many Irish films make their debut at the Galway Film Fleadh such as the acclaimed Once which featured the music of Glen Hansard. The Film Fleadh also acts as an important networking opportunity for people in the film industry.
