Martin, Andrew J. was born around 1793 in Ireland.

Speculation is that Andrew's family were Ulster Scots and only in Ireland for 2-3 generations.  It is said that Andrew identified parentage as Scots-Irish.

Andrew's occupation: Weaver.

Where in Ireland was Andrew J. Martin born?

Strabane, County Tyrone Ireland or Kilmore, Ireland have been suggested birthplaces by family researchers.  However, these conflict with the Pennsylvania Naturalization Records from the Circuit and District Courts for Andrew Martin that indicate on 17 Sept 1814 Andrew reported to be naturalized, born in County Monehan, Ireland on May 1791, now about age 23, immigrated from Newry, Ireland to Philadelphia arriving on July 19, 1807 and intends to settle in Pennsylvania.

13 Nov 1817, Andrew married Hester "Hettie" Carling (b. 1797 Finesville, Pohatcong Township, Warren, NJ, USA.  Hester's parents were William Carling born about 1768, d. about 1857; Hannah Carling born about 1768, died 25 Jun 1849.

Andrew died 02 Feb 1872 in Stewartsville, Warren County, New Jersey.                                                                                 Hester died 21 Mar 1872 in Stewartsville, NJ USA.  Both in Stewartsville Cemetery.

Andrew and Hester's children:  Louisa, Hannah, Elizabeth, Margaret, and James.

James Martin, Andrew's son, is the ancestor connected to our Martin family.

  • Hello again Sylvia!

I checked two subscription sites: FindMyPast.ie and Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record for Andrew Martin around 1790. Very difficult to find records for Co. Monaghan back to the late 18th century.

You could add Andrew's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection.  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

Not sure if we discussed DNA testing before but theat may be a helpful option.
