Hi all,

I'm looking for any information on my Nan who isn't with us any more. Her name was Rose McConnon born in Cavan in 1929 and lived on high Street. Her mother was a Mary McConnon. Her birth certificate has no fathers name.

I know through DNA and research that Her father is connected to the Mone family in Armagh and her mother left her no later than 6 years of age and moved to Dublin. What the family doesn't know is what happened to Rose.

Any help or possible hints of where to turn my research to next would be amazing because I've hit a brick wall.

Thanks

Mark

I looked at the 1911 census and the only Mary McConnon in Co. Cavan who was young was the 7 year old Mary below which would have made her 24 in 1929.

  • Mark,

Is it Rose or Mary that you are asking about? Thank you.

  • Mostly Rose (my nan) but I believe Mary is her Mother so indo on her would be great if anyone has anything. I know Mary moved to Dublin and had 4 more kids but I believe Rose didn't go with her.

We have limited access to records post 1929. We have access to civil marriages up to 1948 and civil death records up to 1973. I searched on the free site irishgenealogy.ie for Mary McConnon marriage and death records in Dublin and Cavan and did not find a good lead.

The only lead for Rose McConnon was a 1947 marriage to a Joseph Thornton in Co. Monaghan. I assume this marriage was not for your Rose.

  • Mark,

You asked for more information on both Mary & Rose, here is a civil marriage record for Mary McConnell to John Hanratty in 1933. I saw your Ancestry tree, and you have Mary's birth record from Roots Ireland on her profile....this marriage information is in the notes section of that record, yet you don't have this marriage on your tree. Perhaps when she married Byrne, her name was Hanratty in that marriage record. I realize your relation is Rose, but just thought this might open some doors.

    Regards,
