I have several of my Daly family who were born and baptized in Ballinamoragh, Dungarvarn Parish, Waterford. These births/baptisms were in the mid 1800s.
I have also come across a dozen or so other baptisms in the Dungarvan registers which also state this same townland.
It has been spelled Ballinamoragh, Ballina morragh, Ballynamoraugh for various baptisms and a death, but it is always listed as part of Dungarvan.

Problem is, I can't find it anywhere, not in Griffiths, the land valuations, census, townlands ie or anywhere else; and although I've asked several other people in some of my Irish facebook genealogy groups, none of them have been able to find a location either.

Could some one help me get a map location of this townland?

Thanks,
Sherrie

  • Sherrie,

No need to do that. i found a Brigid and Patrick Daly in 1845 and 1846. I see that the spelling of the townland does indeed vary a lot. I'l post again when and if I find it.

My best guess is a townland or sub-townland called Ballaghavorraga which is in Griffiths under Clonea. Clonea is very close to Dungarvan and there were Dalys there.

I have sent you a map that shows it (look closely!) in the middle of the map as either a townland or sub townland.

    I hope this helps

  • I now know that Ballinamoragh is an older part of Ballymacmague, Dungarvan Parish, County Waterford; it was used interchangeably even flip flopped between the various baptisms for my 2x great grandmother, her siblings and cousins.
