Barney Fox Was born Sept 22, 1839, in Brackery Beg, I believe.  He emigrated to Canada and then the US during the Great Famine.  I know that his father is John Fox, no other information known, and his mother was Mary Flynn, born 1801, I believe.

John Fox did not arrive in Canada, so that makes me think that he died before the family left Ireland.  Barney, one place has listed his name as Barnabus, may have had several siblings, certainly Martin, born in 1841, travelled to North America with his mother and brother.  a Brother John was born in 1823, William, born about 1834, and brother James, born about 1844.  I'm looking to ascertain if Barney is from Brackery Beg, and what you might know about his father and mother.  While we know Barney, his mother and brother arrived in Maine, we know almost nothing about them prior to the arrival in North America.

Thank you for any help you can give us.

Theresa Foxx-Wishert (my father added a second 'x' to his name, long story)

  • Thank you so much, Col, for this information.

Were you able to find Barney Fox, b. 1839,  also listed as a baptism, or any other record?

By 1852, Mary Fox indicates that she is a widow.  Although, if she and John had split, that could have been an easy explanation, I suppose.

We have never captured Thomas Fox as a child of John and Mary, I think we had the wrong birth date for John jr  so this is helpful. James Fox fits nicely into the records that we alos have him on a US census for 1850 as living with Mary.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Forgot to mention I could not find Barney's birth or baptism on roots; only records around 1839 are 2 in 1838  (1 Meath & 1 Westmeath) & 2 from 1841 (Westmeatn & Cork). All are for Bartholomew however
