Hello- trying to pinpoint the origins of my paternal Boner and McGinty-Friel ancestors in County Donegal. My great-grandfather, John Boner, was born about 1864 to Michael Boner. He later changed his last name to the current BONNER after arriving in the US. His mother is unknown but she may have been a Catherine Carlin.
John would marry his wife, Mary McGinty, another Donegal native, in Philadelphia, PA. Mary was most likely a couple of years older than John, born about 1861. I believe her parents were Neal (Neil) McGinty born about 1844 and Susan Friel- born about 1847. One of the questions that I have about Susan being Mary’s mother is the age discrepancy. While possible- Susan would have had Mary at age 14. This seems quite young even in a period when childhood was a very short period in life. Neal’s parents may have been Neal McGinty and Bridget Murray. Susan Friel McGinty’s parents may have been Bernard Friel and Mary McLaughlin.
Neil and Susan had additional children:  Patrick (1875), Margaret (1876) and Hannah. Neil, Susan and their younger children emigrated in 1883 and eventually settled in Philadelphia.
