I have been searching for the burial site of my family. They lived in Toobrackan, just outside Ballaghadarreen. The names and dates follow:

Thomas McDermott 1846-Feb 21, 1901

Winnifred McDermott 1855- Sept 9, 1936

Patrick McDermott 1885- ?

There is a cemetery just outside Toobrackan, but they are not listed.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Robert!

I checked Old Kilcolman cemetery on the Historic Graves site and found one McDermott record possibly there is a family connection.

  • Unfortunately, This is not the same family.  Patrick was my great uncle. He was the last survivor for the family in Ireland. My grandmother and all sibblings came to the US in 1900. All of Thomas sibblings came to Canada during the famine. I fairly certain St. Nathy has the burial records, but will not pass on to me unless I'm there in person. Ironically, my family helped build the steeple of the church.

  • Robert:

Just so you know, I'm the only one seeing your 6/4 message. My grandmother was from Ballaghaderreen but I live in Maryland so obviously I can't help.

My guess is that your McDermotts were interred in the Old Kilcolman cemetery but there is no marker. Regarding St. Nathy's, the pastor changed in the last two years so if your last contact was before that date maybe they would be more willing to assist. I do know from the parish bulletin that there is only one priest at the church and the parish office is only open for four hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Times are tough.
