Hi there- I have a birth certificate for my Nana, recording her birth on 8/25/1908 to John And Mary Ann (Carney) Cafferkey, of Briarfield, registered in Ballyghadereen, district of Castlerea, Co Roscommon.  This is a cerficiate issued by the Health Board of Roscommon in 1999.  What I'm unable to find is a searchable baptism, birth, or census records from 1901 or 1911, showing this family in Briarfield.  I find a family with similar names in Ardagh North.

Any insights as to why I would not find the records, either in the parish or civil registries?

Cheers,

Steph Barrett

I assume your Nana was Bridget Cafferkey.

If you are searching for church baptismal records on a subscription site such as Roots Ireland, baptismal records in Co. Roscommon stop in 1900 on their data base.

Briarfield is a local place name near the village of Lisacul. It is not the name of a townland which explains why you did not locate a record using Briarfield on the 1901 and 1911 censuses. The townland is Curraghsallagh. Artagh North is the name of the District Electoral Division (DED) for the area around Curraghsallagh.

Let me know if you have any questions.
