Hi, I believe my 3rd great grandfather, John Patrick Callahan, may have been baptised in Tracton Abbey/Kinalea Parish in July 1805, child of John Callahan & Ellen Mehegan.  (I have not been able to independently confirm his parents' names.).  John Patrick eventually setted in Burke, New York, USA, but I don't know when he came to North America.  He married Catherine Dineen.  He died in NY in 1871.  I will be visiting Kinsale with my family from the USA 14-17 August 2019, and would love to visit the area.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions of where to visit, and to find out if it's possible to see the baptismal records in person.   Thank you!  -Ken

  • Hello Ken,

The original Church Records are free to view online.  Go to registers.nli.ie and enter Tracton Abbey in the Parish box then filter by event (baptism), year and month.

Your GGG-GF, John was baptized 22nd July 1805 to John Callahan and Ellen Mehegan. Other children include Johanna 1803, Timothy 1808, Thomas 1810, Mary 1813, Margaret 1814, Ellen 1817 & Charles 1820.

My friends and I (volunteer researchers at Tracton Genealogy & Local History Group) would be delighted to meet with you while you are in the area. Contact me at berniehurley@gmail.com to arrange a suitable date and time.

    Bernadette.

  • It's interesting that we are both on here looking for our Irish heritage, hello Ken Todd, from the other Ken Todd (Canada).
