Mary SHEEHAN married M CAREY (poss. Michael) c1800? and had at least two children:

Michael CAREY (born c1801) and Ellen CAREY (Born 1814, Mitchelstown parish).

Ellen CAREY married Thomas SULLIVAN 0n 20 November 1830 at Carrigdownane, Kildorrery Parish.  They had 4 children and Thomas  moved to England with their youngest child Ellen (jnr) to join the other 3 children (William, John & Mary) after Ellen (Snr) died c1863.

Any information on either the CAREY/SHEEHAN or SULLIVAN families would be very appreciated.

Thank you,

Lesley

I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland and found four baptismal records for children of Thomas Sullivan and Ellen Carey in Kildorrery RC parish. For all four records, the home place was shown as Rockmills in St. Nathlast civil parish. I did not see a record for William, John and Mary but found records for Thomas and Bridget? I assume I have the correct family. Also, there is a tenyear gap between the marriage and the first baptismal record I located. Kildorrery baptismal records are available back to 1824   https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0065   Maybe William John and Mary were baptized in a different parish which no longer has records back to the 1830s.

    Ellen January 7 1841

    Bridget February 11 1844

    Thomas June 22 1845

    Ellen April 25 1854

Let me know what questions you have

  • That's great, Roger, and many thanks again.   As you'll know I'm also on the Kildorrery message board and am trying to find death records of Ellen Sullivan (nee Carey).

I found William, John and Mary were born in 1833/1839/1840 respectively in Kildorrery so obviously the family moved to Rockmills between 1841-1845.

I've also found Margaret born in Carrigdonan in 1850.

I have Ellen Mary born 12 June 1853  in Kildorrery.    I know Ellen Snr died before her husband and Ellen Mary moved to London to join the older 3 children.   Ellen Mary was my 2nd great grandmother and I've always been told that she and her father were the last of the family to leave Ireland, hence I'm presuming the four children you've found + Margaret died in infancy.

To complicate things further I'm descended from both William and Ellen Mary as William's son, Thomas, and Ellen Mary's daughter, Elizabeth married and were my grandparents!
