Hi All, My name is Debbie McNeil (Schwartz) and I am trying to obtain some family history of both parents side.  I have my Great Grandfather's marriage certificate (issued in Mackay, Queensland, Australia) and at this time I am looking for his Carroll ancestry.

I have his name as John Carroll, born about 1944/1945 in Bruff, Limerick.  He married Margaret McDonnell of Carnan, Tyrone.

His father's name was Patrick Carroll (a farmer).

His mother's name was Margaret Kelly.

His wife Margaret's father was James McDonnell and her mother Sarah Judge.

As I am holidaying later this year with my hubby in Ireland, I am hoping to perhaps see the area my ancestors' came from and any information anyone can give me will be hugely appreciated.  Thank you so much in advance & cheers, Deb :-)

  • Hi debbiemc26,
I worked out you ment 1844/1845 as the birth year for John.
Do you know any of John's siblings names?
This record is from 1833 for a Jno Carroll

It says Chapel Lane, I know there is a Chapel Street just off Main Street.

This is James McDonnell in Arboe Tyrone.

Carnan is the townland, Arboe is the Parish, this is a map of the area.

    Hope this has helped.

  • Thank you Margot, I don't have sibling information at the moment on John, but am only just starting on my mother's father's side, so hopefully I can get some more soon.
Thank you very much for your kind help, I so very appreciate your assistance.
    Cheers from Oz, and regards,
    Deb

    Hi MaryTV,

Sorry for delay:  I have just arrived home from visiting my grandchildren and on checking my emails I have found your reply/comments to Margo's information for me.

Thank you very much, this is amazing and I will jump onto my research pages tomorrow as soon as I get back from a couple of errands to see if I can match any of these up with my Mum's father and his family.   You and Margot  have given me some wonderful information to work with and I really do appreciate it very, very much.

Thank you again from Australia and best wishes for a wonderful week.

    Deb
