I have linked the Civil Record for Winny Toole in this message.  I cannot find the Church Record for her.  She was born on 13 Jul 1879 and the village says Annaghbane; although, I have also seen the same place as Annaghvane and Annaghvaan depending on the writing and translation.  Can someone help me find the Church Record?  Thanks.

  • HLK,

I searched on the paid site RootsIreland for children of John and Bridget and found a son. He was baptized in the parish of Carraroe, so maybe Bridget was baptized there as well. Address is transcribed as Annaghvane.

    Name: Mark Toole
        Date of Baptism: 14-Oct-1877
    Address: Annaghvane Parish/District: CARRAROE
    Gender: Male County Co. Galway
        Denomination: Roman Catholic

Father: John Toole Mother: Bridget Flaherty

  • That is her sibling, Mark Toole.  She is not in Tuam, Killeen nor the Tuam, Lettermullin and Carraroe book.  I am wondering if I am looking in the wrong Church books, even though I did find her sibling Mark in the Taum, Killeen book.  If they were both born in Annaghvane (and the variants I mentioned in my first post), how do I know what Church book to look in.  Is there a guide somewhere that lists the villages and associated Parishes, etc?

  • KLKapaun:

I also looked at the parish register for the RC parish of Kilannin and did not find the baptismal record for Winny Toole. (Annaghvaan townland is in the civil parish of Killannin). It is possible that the priest never added the baptism to the parish register.

Regarding your question about the guide. You first need to determine the civil parish where the townland was located. There are a number of sites. Here is one https://thecore.com/seanruad/index.html   You can then go to johngrenham.com  and determine the RC parish(es).

  • Hi,

For whatever reason, the baptism isn't in the church records at the NLI site, https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634180#page/8/mode/1up.

    Best wishes, Kieran
