  • Hi Deborah,

I went to the irish census online.  I searched for a James Colfer whow would be very young child.  I found a James Colfer aged 2, with his brother John who is not yet one.  His mother Margaret who is staying with her brother Laurence Grace.

So Margaret's maiden name is Margaret Grace.  You might be able to apply for amarriage cert for Margaret and JOhn from the general registrar.   www.groireland.ie.

According to the census she was married for 3 years which would make it about 1908 for her marriage.

All the census are free online.  Make sure to scroll down the page and click on the household return form.

Will continue to look for John.  I looked at www.rootsireland.ie and searched for John Colfer.  I found 3 baptismal records between 1882 and 1892.  One of them is your ancestor but as you don't have a parents name to narrow down the search you may have to purchase the four records to see if something strikes a chord.  Sponsors, an address???
