Looking for records for Dudley Conneely and Barbard Ridge, my great great grand parents on my fathers side. The births of five of their children were registered in Rosmuc Parish, Patt Connaley 23 Apr 1860, Mary Coneely 04 Jul 1862, Michael Coneely 09 Apr 1865 (my great grandfather) Hugh Coneely 27 Apr 1871 and Martin Conneely 20 Aug 1875. I am hoping to find a marriage record and/or birth records in the Rosmuc parish. I assume the birth would be in th 1830's and marriage would be late 1850's. My grandfather was born to Michael Conneely approx. 1894 in Leitir Mor na Coille (Lettermore, Galway)

  • Hi Van,

I searched rootsireland.ie for baptisms/births of surname Conneely Father Dudley and mother Barbara Ridge and got 4 of the children (Hugh is missing).

However, I had no luck with Dudley & Barbara's marriage; there are 3 marriage records for Dudley Conneely in Galway - 1 in 1861 & 2 in 1866 but the spouse is not first name Barbara or surname Ridge.

The only baptism/birth record I could find for Barbara Ridge was 1820 Galway.

Baptisms/births for Dudley Conneely in Galway were 1861 & 1876.

There is a Conneely tree (owner Celia Conneely) on ancestry which has a Dudley Conneely born 1861 but this one married Barbara BURKE in Ardmore, Carna Galway in 1903 aged 41. I couldn't find this on rootsireland.ie either.

She has Dudley's parents as Dermott Conneely & Barbara Conroy.

    This Dudley & Barbara's children were Edward 1904, William 1905 & Macdara 1909

There are 74 Conneelys on the Tithe Applotments (1823-37 free to search)

Griffiths Valuation (1855 Galway  & free to search) has 640 Conneelys in Galway.

The Irish Census (free to search) 1901 has 3174 Conneelys in Galway & the 1911 census has 2981.

There are 181 Conneelys in the Irish phone book including several in Rosmuc; we have had success with people writing to those still living in the parishes their ancestors were from so if all else fails...

I'm sorry I couldn't get the info for you; maybe if you post again mentioning Galway Lettermore & Rosmuc rather than Connaught Ireland west a local expert might find your family.

    Col

  • Van,

A 1911 census indicated there were Conneely's living in:

    • COUNTY: GALWAY
    • P. DIVISION: CONNEMARA
    • PARISH: KILCUMMIN
    • TOWNLAND: GLENTRASNA

    Bridgit Conneely age 70

    Martin Conneely age 67

    Honor Sullivan (Conneely) age 45

I am of the Sullivan line. The record also indicates a son named Dudley Sullivan reported on the census, an interesting coincidence? (see attachment) Perhaps our lines crossed in Glentrasna?
