Hi

I am trying to find some information on my great grand parents and their family. My great grandfather was John T Corr Born 12/24/1868. He was married to Mary Yore (Corr) and they moved to the US in 1882. I know they had 7 children- James, Andrew, George, Hugh, John, Mary and Joseph. I am unsure what part of Ireland they are from...what parish. I know they say we still have money cousins in Ireland and an old abandoned farm house. Any info would be great. Thank you

  • Something doesn't add up here.  If John was born in 1868, then he was only 14 when he and Mary moved to the US in 1882, with their 7 children. Are sure this information is correct?

The name John Corr is fairly common in Ireland and there are quite a few who married a Mary, but not Mary Yore. Mary Yore is an uncommon name. There are only a few marriages in the period 1864 to 1890, and none married a John Corr.

I see from the PGS public tree on Ancestry that the children are all listed as being born in the USA, 1891 onwards. If John went to the US in 1882, then it seems most likely he married there. Have you checked that?

In that case, you will need to try and get their parents names from sources in the US (eg marriage or death records), to narrow the search in Ireland, especially for John as the name is common. For Mary there is a birth registered in Ardee, Co Louth  in 1867 Vol 2, page 420, but again you need her parents names to know if it?s the right one.
