I am looking for any information available about my great- great grandparents. The earliest information I have found is their marriage in Templemichael on Monday 26 January 1846. John Cox married Catherine Murphy.                                   They had 12 children. 3 born in Templemichael and a further 9 in Birmingham, England

Baby Cox baptised February 1850. Original record damaged so some details not legible.

Eliza Cox baptised 30 March 1851.

another child was also born in Templemichael - details mislaid at present.

By 1857 the family were living in Birmingham, England  Over the next 20 years they had 9 more children.  I would be interested to find out what happened to the first 3 children, as they do not appear on any English census records. Did they die young or were they left with family members in Ireland?

It is believed that John Cox served in the Crimean War but no records have yet been found

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has the 1850 baptismal record as Maria Cox. See transcription below. They only listed Maria and Eliza. There were a number of John Cox baptismal records in the 1820s in Templemichael but no way to determine if one was your ancestor.

  • I do recall now that Maria was the other child born in Ireland. She did not live very long and they named another daughter Maria in 1854 (born in England). Not sure what happened to Eliza. Couple of possible death records and marriage records that could be the correct one. Will try Roots Ireland, many thanks
