  • Pam:

The subscription site Roots Ireland has an April 20 1839 baptismal record in Thurles for a Catherine Croke with father John Croke and mother Judith Callinan. There were no Catherine Crowe baptismal records in Thurles in the late 1830s.

  • Hello,

Try Crough and Croagh as legit variations of the name in Tipperary. Phonetics and transcription errors are key in researching Croagh and Croak? The area most affected by this variation is between Limerick and THurles and is covered by five different districts, the two just mentioned and then Cashel, Nenagh and Tipperary (town and surrounding countryside)

Callinan could be anything from Callaghan to Cullinan and any variation you can think of. Most of the Kate, Kitty and Catherine variations are usually accomodated by the search engines of the genealogy sites but .... :)

Judith, Jane, Johanna, July are all interchangeable, girls names got messed about in all the records as they were more possessions than people at that time. using wild card characters with local place names should reduce the number of possibilities to a managable number.
