Hi, I'm hoping to find some information on my Great Great Grandmother Ellen Crimmins born in Dromocollogher around 1851. We know that Ellen married a man named James Martin O'Keefe in 1868 under "unusual" circumstances. The family story goes that Ellen's father, believed to be Jeriamah Crimmins was a farmer and that James was a hired hand on the farm, possibly a pig hand. It seems that this "love match" was not well recieved by Ellens family and their marriage may have been in secret. Shortly after they married the pair left Ireland for Middlesborough which at that time was in Yorkshire.
I would loved to hear from anyone who can help me trace my GG Grandmothers family back to Ireland.
Thank you.

Hi Simon,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you.
In the meantime, here are some resources that yo umay find useful:
Church Records:
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Dromcologher parish, follow this link:
Civil Records:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here are their contact details:
