Still searching for history of John L. Dougherty (which may have been Daugherty) and wife was Catherine (Love).

This was all we have in the way of Irish location history but it appears that spelling of locations are not exactly correct.  We think it may be: DRUMHARKIN, FENAGH, LEITRIM

Altoona Mirror 11/2/1890 Front Page:

"J. L. Dougherty. Died this morning at 3:50 o'clock, aged 73 years, 5 months and 16 days, of Bright's disease. The deceased was one of the pioneers of Altoona, having come here on the last day of April, 1851, and has resided here ever since. He was born June 6, 1817 in County Letrom, town of Deharkin, three  miles from Ballamore, Ireland. He came to America in 1848 and resided near Danville a short time, from there he went to Bellefonte, removing from thence to Huntingdon Furnace and then to this city.  Mr. Dougherty leaves three sons and two daughters..........He was one of the oldest Masons in the county."  Funeral services in First Lutheran Church and iternment i f=Fairview Cemetery, Altoona. • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We know that John Daugherty was a Methodist in 1890 but we do not know his religion when he was born. The RC records for Fenagh parish start in 1825. Methodist records for parishes in Leitrim start in 1840 or later and Church of Ireland records start later in the 1800s.So a baptismal record does not exist.  I also did not find a Dougherty/Love marriage in Co. Leitrim on Roots Ireland.

I looked at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there were five Doherty records which is likely how John's surname was spelled in Ireland. None of the five Dohertys were in Drumharkan/Drumharkin. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/leitrim/fenagh.htm

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

You can add John's story to our XO Chronicles site and maybe someone will recognize the family and post a comment.
