Hello

My name is Mary Reilly and I am in the process of the final stages of my dissertation on my maternal ancestors. My Grandmother Margaret Connelly was from Clogherboy and was born in 1891. She was reared with her Grandparents the Hogans in Killeelaun on the Galway Rd, Tuam.  I have been unable to obtain  a marraige certificate for her.  She married John Monaghan from Ower, Headford, Co. Galway about 1920 but there's no record of this in birth, marriage and death's office in Shantalla.   I am of the opinion that Margaret and John may have married elsewhere.  I would be grateful if you could check the parish register for confirmation of where they may have married.  They may also have married in Killererin.

Also their first two sons my uncles - Denis Monaghan and Peter Monaghan are not registered as been born in Ower and they may have been born in Clogherboy.  I am of the view that maybe Margaret lived with her mother Mary Connelly, Clogherboy after her marriage before moving to Ower, Headford.  I would also be grateful if the baptismal records for Denis and Peter Monaghan who may be born in Denis 1920-21 and Peter 1921-23 could be sourced for information on my two uncles.

Thanking you

Kind regards

Mary Reilly

  • Dear Mary

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and thanks for your query

Unfortunately, Ireland Reaching Out cannot provide access to records. As you probably know, there is no central repository in Ireland for records, nor can we provide a dedicated genealogy research service.

In relation to your search for Margaret?s marriage to John Monaghan you could check www.familysearch.org to be sure there is no civil record. However, as most online records are not available after 1900 you will have to contact the Parish Priest, Fr. Tod Nolan, P.P., St. Mary?s Church, Barnaderg, Killererin (093 49222).

You may also be interested in contacting Killererin Heritage Society should you need further information for your studies. You can reach them through Killererin Community Council: http://killererincommunity.com/history.htm

Best of luck with your search
