Hello all,

I am researching the family of Patrick Farrell and Margaret (Cahill) Farrell of County Clare. They had daughters Mary (born approx. 1838), and Sarah (born August 1846). There were also Winifred (born 1850), Kate (born June 1855), and Ann (born 1857). There is some possibility that Margaret died before 1850, and the 3 later girls were born to a second wife. There is also a connection to the Dugan family which is not well known.

Any assistance is much appreciated!

I searched the subscription site FindMyPast.ie and found the marriage record in the Tulla RC parish on January 22 1837. Both Patrick and Margaret were from Derrymore.

I looked for baptismal records and only located one record for a Catherine Farrell. Ironically, you mention five daughters but not Catherine. Catherine's baptismal date was June 29 1853.

Here is a link to the parish register. You may want to look for records for the other sisters.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0813

  • Bill,

I found two additional daughters for this couple on a site that I do not see referenced here too often, but I like to take a look at it when it involves Clare. It is the Clare Library site, under the genealogy section. See www.clarelibrary.ie. You can search for years as well as the parents'surnames. For the Tulla RC parish I found a Sally born on 16 Aug 1840 under the father's surname, and then under the mother's surname I found Mary 18 Jun 1838, Bridget 20 Nov 1841, and Catherine 29 Jun 1853 mentioned by Roger. You will see that the father's surname has many variations when you search under Cahill...and perhaps that is why these children do not appear when I searched under Farrell.

Unfortunately, I did not find any Winifred, Sarah or Anne. Maybe the Kate (1855) that you mention is Catherine (Jun 1853).

  • Hello Carolyn,

Thanks so much for adding your insights! It was a surprise to find Sarah listed as Sally--that was her nickname--but what a great discovery!

    All the best,

    Bill
