Good Morning. I've been working on my family lineage for years now, and have yet to break through to my Grandfathers ( Several Greats) home town. Hi Name is John( Jno) Flemming / Fleming He is shown in Tax Polls as being in Canada, Sambro Nova Scotia in 1792 /93 working at the lighthouse with a Mathew pennell. From this year onward, he is listed as living in Ketch harbour Nova Scotia. In his death record. He is listed as being from Clonmel, Tipperary county. Our entire family has been Roman Catholic since arriving in Nova Scotia.He married a Susannah Sandal. and had 2 sons, John and Richard. Born 1794 / 1796 respectively. The entire family, with few exception, has worked on the water/ Fisherman, Harbour Pilots, Sparmakers etc etc.
I have record of a John Flaming in Port Roseway , Shelburne Nova Scotia in 1786. This is where several Loyalists came ashore from New York. There is also mention of a John Flemming coming ashore in Country Harbour, Guysborough Cty Nova Scotia in 1784, however he did not stick around according to the land grant info.
If there is any other info I can provide, please let me know. I greatly appreciate any info that anyone can provide. It's so important for me to know where my family is from.

He is listed as being Born in 1762 and Died in Nova Scotia Canada in 1827. From info I have gethered on him, it looks like he may have been involved in Sparmaking / carpentry as well as fishing.

Hello Joe,
Civil records began in Ireland in 1864. Up to then there are church baptismal and marriage records. Most churches began keeping records around 1830 or so. A few parishes (mostly urban) began a bit earlier. If you go to www.rootsireland.ie and look at the map, click on South Tipperary to bring you to the Bru Boru Heritage site. At the bottom of the page it gives the sources of records. When you click on this sentence it will show you the dates that each parish began their record taking. Clonmel is one of the towns which kept early records but they only start at 1780, which is too late to include your ancestor.
I'm sorry not to be able to help you in this matter, but it looks like you have more information there than you could ever hope to have here.

Hi Joe,
I too have been tracking as much as I can. I have signed up for ancestry.ca, and I have got as far as John Flemming, born in Tipperary, Irleand. His son, John (Jock) Flemming, was my great great great (?)grandfather. Although I haven't been able to get any farther, I will set a reminder to post here for you what I find. My immediate family still resides in the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

Hi Katie, I too have come to a wall when it comes to the first John to Ketch Harbour. I have lots of info about his wife, Susannah, and I found info that may link him to Shelbuene ( Port Roseway) in 1786. So this could be a huge clue. If he's a Loyalist. We have avenues to pursue. What branch of the family are you on. I've got quite an extensive tree on Ancestry, but it doesn't include many of the current generation. It's easier to find records on dead people. LOL. Feel free to contact me at joeflemming@eastlink.ca if you'd like to team up on this research. I have a few paths I need to walk down in my research.
FYI, John Had a Son John, and his son is the John ( Jock) you mentioned. Jock was married to Susan Oneil, His father John was was married to Bridget Henneberry.
