Hi I've just started to search my family history and I'm having difficulty finding any birth, marriage or death certificates related to my grandfather, great grandfather and great grandmother other than seeing them listed in the 1901 Ireland Census plus seeing both my great Grandparents mentioned in Petty Session Court Registers for 1818 - 1919.

The individual's I'm searching for are;

Grandfather - Patrick J Hannigan. Born 1898 (Assumed Coote Hill) died Cambridge England 1962.

Brother to Grandfather - Michael Hannigan. Born 1900 (Assumed Coote Hill)  No further info known other than listed in 1901 census

Great Grandfather - John Hannigan. Born 1858 (Birth location unknown) No further info knownother than listed in 1901 census and Petty Court Sessions.

Great Grandmother - Lizzie Hannigan. Born 1879 (Birth location unknown) died London 1950's. No further info knownother than listed in 1901 census and Petty Court Sessions.

All 4 are listed as living in 15 Cooney's Row, Cootehill. My Grandfather Patrick and his mother Lizze moved to England some time before 1930.

Can anyone help with suggestions on finding documents related to them to assist me build my family tree?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I had mixed results. I was not able to find a John Hannigan baptismal record in the 1850s in Co. Cavan on the subscription site Roots Ireland.

I did find a civil birth record fro Elizabeth McCarthy.

fourth record on page 1879 birth Elizabeth McCarthy https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1879/02905/2064463.pdf

I did not locate a civil or church marriage record for John Hannigan and Elizabeth McCarthy. Did they marry outside of Ireland?

I was not able to locate a civil or church birth or baptismal record for Patrick Hannigan

I did find a civil birth record for a daughter Mary born February 6 1899  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1899/02049/1784362.pdf  I looked for a death record for Mary since she was not in the 1901 census but did not see a record. Was she with grandparents?

I located a birth record for Michael  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1900/02005/1770780.pdf

  • Roger,

Thanks very much for your help. You've been fantastic. In reply to your questions.

John Hannigan. I've joined ancestary.com and I see a suggested linked record for a Military Desertion record for a John Hannigan. So I assume he was possibly not born in Cootehill?

    Name:John HanniganAge:18Birth Year:Abt 1858Birth Place:LimerickDesertion Date:5 Jun 1876Desertion Place:LimerickPublication Date:11 Sep 1876Regimental Number:6457Military Corps:Limerick

Elizabeth McCarthy. I'm afraid I do not know if they married in Ireland or even at all I'm afraid.

Daughter Mary. I'm afraid I wasn't even aware of her birth and there is nobody alive to ask I'm afraid.

Patrick (My Grandfather) Thank you for trying.

Michael. I'll now try and search for him and see what relatives I can find associated with him.

Any further help you could provide would be really gratefully recieved.

    Regards

    Mark

The only open issue is the John Hannigan desertion record you located and there is no way to connect that record with someone who might have been born in Co. Cavan in the 1850s.

    No other info I'm afraid.
