Hi all, this is my first post here. I'm looking for any and all information regarding Joseph Woods born in Co.Longford (possibly Drumhauldry?) in 1822, died 1913. He was married to Anne Simpson and they had a son Joseph Woods born 1881 also Co.Longford he married Elizabeth Francis Kemp. All information would be appreciated as it seems I can't get any further than this in my Woods family tree. Thanks!

  • The townland is Drumhalry in Killoe civil parish. Based on the 1901 and 1911 census data, the family was Church of Ireland. Records for the Killoe C of I parish start in 1825 and are available on the subscription site Roots Ireland. However, a search for Joseph's baptismal record was unsuccessful and since you believe he was born in 1822, he was born before available records.

Joseph is shown in the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing in Drumhalry townland.

Here are the 1901 and 1911 census records which show that Joseph was a widower and he had at least three daughters in addition to his son.

The site we use to search civil records www.irishgenealogy.ie is currently down so I can't access the death records for Anne and Joseph.

  • Thanks so much, greatly appreciate the information! Is there any way to find out Joseph's parents names? Would it only be available through baptism records which he wouldn't have? Where else could I look? And if no luck in that direction would he have had a birth record if born in 1822? Thanks so much for any and all help once again! I am stumped in how to look for more information regarding Joseph woods.

  • Civil registration of births started in 1864 so only available church records pre-1864 and in your case, it appears that Joseph was baptized before records are available. I looked for other Woods baptismal records in the Killoe Church of Ireland parish and there were none. There are no Woods records on the Tithe listings for Killoe parish.

  • Hello, If you look again at Joseph's 1855 marriage record, it states that his father is named JOSEPH. The mother is not listed.
Perhaps his parents are listed on a headstone in Drumhalry or mentioned in a will.
If you can find a newspaper obituary for Joseph, it is possible the parents might be mentioned there.
Just a few ideas. Please feel free to email me at glanvil3@aol.com.
