Looking for anything on Hugh Bowen.  He was born about 1791 and died 8 July 1852.  I beleive he was from Kilmeena.  His son Bernard/Barnard (Westport 1829) left for America and lived and died in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  I think jis sister may have been Margaret Bowen (abt 1824), whoi married John Gibbons (1810-?). She also landed in Philadelphia.

Thanks,

Heather

  • Heather:

Unfortunately, records for Kilmeena RC parish start much later in the 1800s and church records for Hugh and Margaret and Bernard will not be available. I checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilmeena civil parish and there were no Bowens listed.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Hello Roger...actually, I posted this for a cousin on my German side and was trying to help figure out his Irish side.  I found him through DNA so I know it works. I just don't have access to his results.

Bernard/Barnard had this stone erected in Chester County, Pennsylvania for Hugh:

I also checked the NLI online parish registers and was diappointed to find out how lacking they were.  Sigh.  I have an Irish side too and it is a real difficult slog to find any hint of where the ancestors are from.

    Thanks for responding.
