Hello,

I would like to invite all members of the Eyre family of Eyrecourt to post their queries and messages here on the Eyrecourt, Meelick  & Clonfert page. A recent conversation with an Eyre family member led to the idea that it would be good to have an Eyre family gathering in Eyrecourt at some time in the future if enough interest prevails. Are you a decendant of the Eyres of Eyrecourt and would you be interested in visiting your ancestral home for a few days of cultural events taking in the sites, scenery, history and culture of Eyrecourt and environs? If so please let us know through this page. All you have to do is enrol as a member of the Eyrecourt parish. Even if you are not interested in coming to Eyrecourt using this site is important for establishing your family history as it will put you in touch with other Eyre family members doing the same thing.

Colonel John Eyre founded Eyrecourt in the late 17th century. The ruins of the old castle that he built at that time still stands. You will see a sketch of the building as it was in the mid 19th century in our Parish page. He also built a church and was granted rights to hold petty sessions, markets and fairs. The church and its graveyard is a feature of our Parish page. The village derives the name Eyrecourt from the original form of Eyres Court.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi

I am a decendent of the Eyre family and my great Grandfather was Ludlow Eyre Hope.  I would love the opportunity to visit this area although am sure that this event has already taken place.  If there is any further information it would be greatfully received.

    Kind regards

    Vicky

  • Hi, we have only recently understood the Eyre link in the family tree and are planning to visit this area. My Great Grandmother was Florence Eyre-Hope, the older sister of Ludlow mentioned above. My older relatives recall meeting the other sister, Ethel after she moved to Belfast and heard mention of other brother Richard, however Ludlow is not known to them. The Eyre side from Madeline is well documented however any information you could provide about Ludlow/Hope side (we know only names back to Ralph J Hope JP). Thanks, Best Regards, Mark

  • I just happened upon this post while searching for the war record of Ludlow Eyre-Hope ( it is Remembrance Sunday ), to fill in a few gaps in family history. I am another great grand-daughter of Florence ( via Ethel Stephens ) and still live on one of the farms that Florence bought before she died. As my grandmother was the oldest girl of Florence's large family, I have quite a few family photographs / bibles etc if you are interested to see them. I'm not sure how easy it is to reply through this forum...but feel free to email me - susan@kbsgroup.co.uk
